We have partnered with a brand new exclusive client who have a long been heading up the MSP and development game in the South West, supporting many SMEs.

Essential Skills:

  • You consider yourself an expert in Linux
  • You have installed and configure servers in a linux environment
  • Comfortable writing BASH scripts
  • Some experience of the LAMP stack
  • Azure and cloud experience of some sort
  • Ansible or similar tools such as Chef or Puppet
  • An Interest in DevOps would be critical to this role as a lot of their clients are keen to utilise serverless technologies

We are looking for someone to join our team for 12-18 months to manage our AS400 system as our current post holder will shortly be retiring.

Our AS400 system sits at the heart of the organisation in terms of managing, storing, processing and providing information across the whole of our business.

The main purpose of the role is to support AS400 software applications developed in the business along with providing information to finance and payroll systems and generating reports for the senior leadership team, stock, payroll, purchasing and other departments. The role will look after the maintenance, reporting and development of the AS400, working with other IT colleagues on providing data to the business.

You will be actively engaging with colleagues in the IT team and participating in business projects where AS400 and data is involved, identifying requirements and developing solutions to best fit the business and the system.

On the technical side you will be responsible for designing programming modifications, developing and supporting programmes and providing solutions to problems and suggest alternatives when technical roadblocks are encountered.

From you, we are looking for proven experience of IBM AS/400-iSeries and solid experience of all aspects of RPG programming (RPG III RPG IV RPGLE-FreeFormat), strong experience in SQL & AS400 QUERY, CL programming and FTP scripting. Outside of the AS400 then good Office365 experience is valued and experience of working with MS Dynamics 365 would be beneficial.

From a personal perspective, you will be a good communicator to both technical and non-technical audiences and be able to work with other departments, suppliers, contractors and remote teams to execute planned implementations. You will be able to prioritise and handle multiple tasks and to analyse and understand business processes and make improvements to the supporting systems. In terms of project management skills then an understanding of Agile and other methodologies is useful and well as an interest in identifying new technology tools and acquiring the skills needed to make productive use of these tools.

As with all technology enhancements it is essential that we ensure the business requirements are fully understood and documented.

Thorough analysis ensures the business requirements are both challenged and met as part of the development lifecycle.

The Business Analyst will be involved in the projects throughout its life cycle. From requirements gathering to implementation. There will often be times when there are multiple projects being worked on at any one time. You will work closely with the Business Stakeholders, IT Developers, Testers and Integrations and Infrastructure teams to deliver the projects. Part of the role may involve establishing the team, motivating the team, monitoring team progress - this may even extend to third party suppliers.

Your Duties and Key Accountabilities:

  • Attending project workshops, meetings, sprint reviews and system demos
  • Working with business stakeholders, developers and the Testers to understand business / project requirements - this could involve facilitating workshops, 1-2-1 interviews etc.
  • Documenting the requirements following the agile methodology (Epics, Features, Stories etc.) - providing process flows where appropriate
  • Preparing project backlogs and sprint plans (essentially the project plan)
  • Provide project updates either in project team meetings, or steering groups
  • Support the Project Manager regarding financial responsibility for designated projects, validating business benefits and project justification as well as managing the budgets
  • Where appropriate support business stakeholders with UAT
  • Where necessary offer support during transitional "go live" stage of projects

Essential Criteria needed in this role:

  • Strong analytical skills
  • Logical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to be vigilant and inquisitive with good attention to detail
  • Understanding of workflows and process flow diagrams
