We are looking for a Lead Scala Developer to work within an existing Scrum team based in Shipley, Yorkshire. Teams work collaboratively to build robust microservices using the Play framework and Scala. There is an emphasis on functional programming style and TDD. We are looking for candidates who enjoy sharing their expertise with the team and providing further support to the more junior members.

What you'll be doing:

  • Scala, with an appreciation of its functional capabilities.
  • A modern MVC framework (Play, Vert.x,Rails, ASP.NET MVC, SpringMVC)
  • Test Driven Development (TDD). You'll see unit testing as essential.


What we're looking for:

  • Knowledge and experience of using Git Linux (the command line is your friend)
  • You will have mentored and coached less experienced developers Experience in leading investigative work into problems at a senior level, driving the collection of information and creation of recommendations for improvements
  • Pair daily with like-minded and highly skilled people
  • You'll assist in architecting systems and applications
  • Working as part of an Agile team collaborating with team members in every role

As the Head of Performance and BI, you will be responsible for:

• Managing a team of specialists to ensure the continuous development of the Council's business intelligence and performance skills and capability

• Ensuring your team is equipped to develop performance frameworks, metrics and reports which provide Senior Leaders with insights to support effective decision making.

• Supporting the team to work collaboratively with senior colleagues, finding solutions to business intelligence and performance problems to ensure business needs are met.

• Bringing a significant level of technical expertise and the proven ability to shape and lead the ongoing development of this new service.

• Working with senior leaders across the breadth of the organisation and be responsible for the development of insightful analysis driven by evidence-based data led research.

• Accountable for leading a professional "guild" (or technical specialism) in the Performance and BI service.

The successful Head of Performance and BI must possess:

• Strong experience of undertaking performance & BI analysis and/or providing an intelligence service to a large complex organisation.

• Demonstrable experience of successfully delivering high quality intelligence that impacted on strategic decision making, preferably in local government.

• Experience and understanding of implementing organisation-wide performance management frameworks

• Significant experience of leading and motivating a multi-disciplinary team to deliver positive outcomes.

We are looking for is a proactive, hands on programme manager (not a hands off programme lead) who will come in and work at a detailed level on the programme, acting as the programme risk and issue management.

Following existing processes/templates, maintaining the integrated Gantt in MS Project for the programme, as well as running touch point calls with the project managers to ensure the teams are on track with their interdependent tasks, provide finance oversight at the programme level (budget of ~$10m - using existing tools we have) and preparing Steerco level updates for the programme (plan on a page, maintaining a core pack of updates on various aspects on the programme).

This role requires experience working on a global scale. Pharmaceutical experience is preferred.
