My client is a leading world-renowned defence organisation who are seeking an experienced hardware engineer to be part of a team working on the assembly of components into both commercial and platform standard cabinets.

You will provide hardware expertise to design, procurement, building, installation, testing activities and acceptance events of COTS and Platform specific cabinets at a variety of locations across the south of England.

Essential skills:

* Knowledge and experience in assembling COTS hardware and PC technology.
* Experience with COTS cabinets, cabinet/rack/unit design, wiring and wiring schedules, power distribution etc.
* Good documentation skills
* An excellent team player with strong communication skills and an ability to work independently with minimal supervision
* Understanding of Configuration Control and baselines
* Investigation and resolution of design issues
* Support to development systems
* Good understanding ofthe Engineering Lifecycle
* Ability to manage complex issues for multiple concurrent projects balancing the needs and priorities of each project against the others

Desirable skills:

* Experience in Naval Combat System Equipment build, manufacture, physical integration, installation and acceptance
* Knowledge of EMC and environmental (shock, vibration, cooling) control measures applied to equipment containing COTS items to meet military specifications
* Experience of working with sub-contractors
* Experience in Design Certification
* Knowledge of Virtualisation (VMWare, in particular)
* Knowledge of Dell and Juniper COTS hardware
