BACKEND DEVELOPER - FULL TIME, LONDON

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement new cutting edge functionality for our END. e-commerce micro-services
  • Work closely with other key team members to solve the technical challenges faced by a rapidly growing e-commerce business
  • Provide support to other developers where required and assist with code reviews
  • Work to improve performance and scalability
  • Implement integrations to third party systems such as ERP, payment gateways, fraud and marketing solutions
  • Ad hoc development tasks for our other products may be required from time to time

Essential skills and attributes:

  • 2+ years commercial PHP / MySQL experience
  • Experience of working with Laravel or similar PHP framework
  • Experience of building micro-services
  • Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes
  • Experience with Git
  • Experience with Test Driven Development
  • Solid experience working with 3rd party integrations and API’s
  • Experience with Magento (bonus)
  • Knowledge of/experience of working in Agile/Scrum environment

I am currently working with an Ed Tech start-up who are looking for their first crucial hire in their development team. They are looking to change the private tuition industry, providing fully vetted and verified tutors with clients seeking face to face tuition. At present the iOS version of their app is live on the app store with plans to release the Android app over the coming weeks.

The Mobile App Developer will report directly to the CEO, working closely with an off shore development team who have designed and developed the iOS & Android app, working to implement new features, troubleshoot and resolve any issues with in the application as well as bring development fully in house over the following months. The Mobile App Developer will be working closely with Business Analysts and leadership teams to understand business requirements and in turn design and implement these requirements.

As the first in house developer you will have the ability to influence development, driving the business forward using the latest technologies, working in a small start-up environment where your work will have a massive impact on the business.

Key Skills and attributes my client are looking for:

  • 4+ years working experience developing both native iOS and Android Applications (Swift & Java)
  • Strong experience in design patterns.
  • Strong understanding of SOLID principles.

• You will participate in the development of software products as part of a multi-disciplinary project team and to work within project timescales, providing progress indication and task estimates as necessary;


• You will work within the software team using agile methods, participating in sprint planning, sprint reviews and retrospectives. You will be a vocal advocate of quality throughout the project lifecycle;


• You will need to develop strong working relationships with software development engineers, project managers, engineering managers and other test engineers;


• You will contribute to the review and maintenance of software testing standards and policies under the direction of the Lead Software Test Engineer.

Skills required:

• The ability to work closely with developers and engineering specialists as an embedded tester in an agile team;


• A degree in a computing, science or engineering discipline or at least 18 months’ relevant experience;


• Recent proven manual and automated test experience is essential;


• Experience of the Microsoft development stack (TFS, Visual Studio, Test manager);


• You must be self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

Desirable skills:

• Windows programming in C#, Visual Basic, or any scripting language using object-oriented methodologies would be an advantage;


• Understanding of software design methodologies, notably Agile and Scrum design principles would be useful;


• Exposure to automation test principles would be beneficial;


• An interest in science and technology which goes beyond your day to day work.
