The Financial Markets division with IHS Markit consists of the majority of the legacy Markit businesses which includes a relavtively recent acquisition in the FX space called DealHub. DealHub is an important part of our growth strategy for Financial Markets and in particular FX. The hope is to consolidate DealHub's

post trade business whilst growing its trading, hedging and pricing capabilities to capture Tier2 and below institutions' business.

Position summary

As a Senior C++ Developer you will work throughout the full development lifecycle to create scalable, fault tolerant and secure code. Keeping up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, you will devise elegant solutions for huge technical challenges. You can become part of the strategic changes that are happening within the team during a period of growth.

Duties & accountabilities
  • Develop and maintain server side applications primarily in C++.
  • Design, develop and maintain SQL stored procedures. Requires knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server including database design, management principles, structure modification and performance tuning.
  • Work as part of an agile development team to design, estimate, develop and implement software solutions that satisfy the business requirements.
  • Manage code using version control systems.
  • Handle deployment of application and code library updates to application servers following company change management policies and procedures.
  • Provide support for applications owned by the team and act as point of contact for the team.
  • Research and resolve client-reported issues.
  • Analyse application performance, research performance issues, and optimize objects managed by the team.
  • Continuously expand knowledge in area of specialization. Use of continuous integration.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Business competencies

Education and experience
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • A strong understanding of Microsoft C++ with extensive experience, in addition to STL, TDD, BDD and DDD. Python is a big plus
  • A Financial engineering qualification will be a significant bonus.


Commercial awareness
  • Real-time event processing background and high-throughput optimization skills and experience with concurrent / parallel execution.
  • Experience in optimising code for low latency within the pricing domain. Exposure to the FIX protocol, pre and post trade is a big advantage.

What would you get involved with?

In this key role, you’ll deliver a complex portfolio of audits with a principle focus on controls led by Group CIO Infrastructure and the Chief Security Office. A deep understanding of technology, specifically IT Infrastructure controls and risks is required to provide reliable and independent assurance on the efficiency of the control framework. You’ll support business management in understanding and accepting where action needs to be taken in order to protect the Group. In addition, you’ll work across the Group to evaluate how current and emerging technology risks can drive additional business risks.

Naturally, you’ll apply and champion the Group Internal Audit methodology and standards and keep abreast of audit standard methodology and the changing regulatory environment. As an Audit Manager, you’ll develop, coach and motivate colleagues to build high performing teams that consistently demonstrate group values.

What skills and experience can you bring to the role?

We're looking for a highly motivated team member with a relevant and validated infrastructure auditing experience, with a good level of knowledge, experience and understanding of the key risks across various IT Infrastructure technologies, including:

  • Excellent knowledge (demonstrable through practical experience) of auditing security and operational risks across a variety of operating systems, including: Windows (Server Roles and Technologies; Clients) UNIX (Linux, Solaris, HPUX etc.) Mainframe (Unisys, Z/OS) Midrange (i-Series, HP Non-Stop).
  • Excellent knowledge (proven through practical experience) of auditing security and operational risks across a variety of enterprise network devices and technologies, including: Routers, switches, Loadbalancers, Firewalls, Proxy Services, IDS, IPS, Telephony/ Voice technology (PABX, VoIP etc.), LAN, MAN, WAN, Remote Access, VPN, Cloud – Cloud Management Platforms, Cloud automation etc.
  • Very good understanding of risks and controls across: Databases – such as IMS, DB2, DATACOM, Oracle, SQL, NoSQL, Big Data/ Data Warehouse (Hadoop, Terradata), Storage systems – such as SAN, NAS, Data Backup Technologies.
  • Knowledge and application of: Project delivery, ITIL, IT Infrastructure Design, Maintenance, Monitoring and Capability Planning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of key risks and controls across: Virtualisation (e.g. VMWare, Virtualbox, Citrix), File Transfer Technologies – such as SFTP, Connect:Direct, etc. Middleware – WebSphere MQ, InfoSphere DataStage etc. Batch Technologies, Cryptography/ Certificate Management, Anti-virus, malware detection, email scanning, DLP software etc.

Ideally you’ll possess relevant professional qualifications, such as CIA, CISA or CISSP or clearly evidence comparable IT audit skills acquired through relevant training and work experience. You’ll demonstrate your experience in identifying and testing IT infrastructure controls e.g. networks, databases and operating systems. Financial Services experience is not essential for this role, although you’ll be expected to quickly learn and gain a proven understanding of the key business and technology risks impacting Financial Services.

You’ll have good influencing and motivating skills in a complex and diverse partner environment. Excellent analytical, presentational, verbal and non-verbal communication skills are essential.

Our branches are open at varying times Monday to Saturday (with some opening Sundays) to ensure we can support our customers when they need us. As an On Call Customer Service Adviser you’ll work a variety of hours across these days.

As an On Call Customer Service Adviser you’ll be the first point of contact between us and the most important part of our business: our customers. Day to day you could be:

As part of this team, you'll be key in the delivery for any security support and project requirements, including implementation, design activities and embedding best in class solutions.

You’ll share the responsibility of successfully protecting the 1 in 3 people who use our systems in the UK, as well as our 10 million active online banking users. You can expect much of your time to be split between support and project work, as we continually improve our offering to become the Best bank for Customers. This means driving the technical solutions to real life service issues, using your depth of technical understanding and capabilities.

In addition to your support responsibilities, you’ll demonstrate an ability and willingness to engage with programmes and initiatives throughout the project life cycle, delivering their requirements. This role is both proactive and reactive in terms of approach to workload and daily activity and combines the responsibilities of a being a support role, but also includes the planning and implementation of planned changes role for projects.

There'll be a 24/7 shift pattern in place across the team, which is designed to provide the most robust level of defence to the services our customers rely on us to provide. Working alongside a senior team member, you'll use your technical skills and problem solving ability to quickly resolve issues as they arise, at any time.

Here’s a flavour of your day-day responsibilities:

  • Planning the implementation of complex changes
  • Delivering changes of all sizes and complexities for our customers
  • Working on modern infrastructure, including cloud providers such as Azure
  • Monitoring the estate and working with colleagues and the wider IT community to identify and close down service issues
  • Delivery of infrastructure and service improvement plans, including gateway upgrades and new builds

What you’ll bring to this role?

  • CCSE/CCSA or qualified through experience with Checkpoint Security Appliances
  • A range of wider Cisco Networks skills and knowledge is desirable
  • Ability to deliver into a multi-vendor, enterprise-level environment, working from being hands on with the devices, to planning larger changes and implementations.
  • Finance Services knowledge/experience is desirable, with the knowledge of regulated environments, but not essential
