SQL Server DBA - Azure, PaaS - Global Company!

Are you a great SQL Server DBA or Engineer?

A new position at one of the FTSE 250 company's here in London has opened as a SQL server database administrator. This is an incredible position for an ideal candidate with a great passion and enthusiasm for SQL servers. You would be working in a diverse environment with a SQL Server estate which will be migrating to the cloud.

Large scale enterprise SQL Server environment. For success you must have a very solid SQL Server background at top DBA level. There are ongoing projects in trend to migrating they're on premises IaaS onto Azure.

Successful candidate will be expected to have some Azure / PaaS knowledge, but our client is flexible on cloud experience and are prepared to give lots of exposure, training and development around Azure PaaS, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Core Requirements:

  • MSSQL Server 2012/2014/2016/2017
  • Database administration both on premise and in cloud platforms
  • SQL Server estate = 40 DBs on-prem/IaaS & 70 DBs in Azure PaaS
  • Automation using (IaC) Terraform
  • Solid understanding of IaaS, PaaS & SaaS
  • If you do not have Azure but are very strong on PowerShell for automation or IaC tools such as Terraform then you will also be of interest!

You will gain/nice to have:

  • Exposure of using Power BI and Business Objects SSRS / SSIS Oracle
  • Automation via (IaC) using Terraform
  • CI/CD - TeamCity and Octopus CI/CD tools
  • Redgate software which links to the TeamCity and Octopus' tools.
  • Security Projects where you will be implementing and automating company policy's
  • Oracle version 10 (Running x2 instances)
  • Chance to move into a data solutions architect role in Azure
  • Massive exposure to migrating to Azure

Desired:

  • Have experience in a similar or related role (SQL Server DBA / Developer / Consultant).
  • Be passionate about all things DevOps and Infrastructure as Code, ideally with experience in Azure or AWS, but not essential.
  • Have experience architecting, building and supporting production SQL Server estates
  • Understand the latest database security trends and best practices.
  • Be able to demonstrate a systematic and analytical approach to problem-solving and lateral thinking.
  • Enjoy working under pressure in a team and/or independently as required.

Able to adapt to changes in a dynamic environment Strong SQL server background preferably within a digital, financial services or media organisation.

Experiences of Agile work practices will be a huge advantage in this role.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a high-calibre individual who is keen to join a dynamic and fast paced environment. The person will report directly to the Head of IT and their main function will be to provide 1st & 2nd Line Support to over one hundred (160) shoreside office-based users.

The role involves dealing support incidents from our internal clients involving desktops, laptops, iPhone mobile devices, Alcatel telephone systems and various application software as well as network connectivity

and related cloud service issues as well the setup and configuration of new hardware and software

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential as this role represents the face of the company and you will be liaising with Senior Management of the cooperation.

The successful candidate should have a keen desire and ability to learn. We actively support and encourage internal training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver support and assistance to clients in a proactive and structured way.
  • Liaise internally with other team members and managers to ensure that customer expectations are met and exceeded
  • Make proactive efforts to improve IT knowledge.
  • Get involved with internal discussions and be willing to contribute to the continuous process of service improvement
  • Take responsibility for ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Configure, deploy and support Laptops, printers and phones
  • Setting installation sequences and back up tasks
  • Troubleshooting and management of incidents and user's requests
  • Set up new users account and profiles and deal with password or application issues
  • IT Equipment relocation and replace part as required
  • Testing meeting room hardware and Monitors
  • Manage video contents playlist for the internal monitors
  • Support user and visitors during meeting as required

  • Formal qualifications and the relevant experience are preferred
  • MTA (Microsoft Technology Associate)
  • MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate)
  • ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) Previous experience in supporting the following is desirable:
