Who we are looking for

An opportunity has arisen for a Manager to provide support across the Deals business units and will report to a Senior Manager. You will work across a team of c30 finance professionals providing advice to client facing professionals in line with PwC policies and accounting standards.


The individual should have


Previous experience in a business decision role
Strong technical and commercial skills
Strong influencing skills with the confidence to challenge management where appropriate
Evidence of building and sustaining strong relationships with senior stakeholders
Experience of Business Intelligence software such as Tableau, Qlik or PowerBI
Ability to work with various systems and databases
Experience of delivering solutions, from the scoping phase through to embedding processes and outputs
A relevant finance qualification such as CIMA or ACCA preferred, but not essential

About the role


The Deals business consists of four business units with an annual turnover of c£600m. The business units cover a variety of products and services involving large high profile engagements with c170 Partners and 2,000 staff. It is one of the fastest growing areas in PwC both within the UK and globally.


The Finance Manager will play a key role in the design and implementation of initiatives, working alongside or within one of the Deals business units to collate and analyse information and trends; providing solutions to financial and commercial issues. The individual will have ownership of month end reporting including interpretation of both financial and non-financial information; flagging areas of concern.


A key role will be to interact and liaise with the business unit operations teams to collate and analyse information, consolidating this and presenting insightful interpretation that will inform decision making.
The individual will work in collaboration with other finance departments, developing a network of key finance contacts across the PwC. The Finance Manager will have the opportunity to build strong relationships; developing new skills.

Essential skills and experience

We are looking for individuals who in all cases have a strong academic track record. A professional qualification is welcome. Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following personal attributes:
  • Excellent relationships in the corporate finance market, with particular focus on local lenders and Private Equity sponsors
  • Experience working with (or ideally for) a lender, including an ability to understand and explain credit processes in detail
  • Detailed understanding of banking documentation and legal structuring of debt finance
  • A detailed knowledge of leveraged finance lending and a strong understanding of other banking products
  • Professional services / client facing experience, working as a financial advisor to regional clients, including owner managed and private equity backed companies
  • Experience of financial modelling, or the interest and aptitude to learn this core skill quickly.
  • Commercial curiosity and demonstrable interest in corporate finance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confidence when interacting with others, coupled with the ability to deliver and to work effectively in teams.

  • Professional services / client facing experience, working as a financial advisor to regional clients, including owner managed and private equity backed companies
  • Experience of financial modelling, or the interest and aptitude to learn this core skill quickly.

Valuations is a business unit within the PwC Deals offering. The Valuations team (of 150 people) provides advice on the valuations of shares, businesses, intangible assets and debt and derivative instruments to a wide range of clients, including government offices, private equity houses, family businesses, multinational conglomerates and individuals. Clients come to us to obtain our advice on valuation for many reasons, including to support them in transactions and commercial decision-making, to provide expert advice in disputes, to agree valuations with the tax authorities and to comply with their financial reporting, regulatory or tax requirements. As valuers we need to fully understand our clients’ commercial realities and those of the industries in which they operate. We pride ourselves on being the largest dedicated valuations practice in the UK, and the only one with a focus on industry specialisms. Our objective is to provide our clients with commercial, pragmatic valuation analysis that draws on industry insight and is grounded in technical excellence.

The valuations business is looking to strengthen the team by recruiting Senior Associate level candidates nationally (specifically in our London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds offices to meet the growing demand for our services.

Aside from the technical valuation skills we would expect the candidate to have good business and client relationship development capabilities, strong communication and people management skills. The strongest candidates will be proactive, on top of commercial developments in a chosen sector and able to identify commercial insight from significant amount of business and market information.

About The Role
Working alongside senior colleagues and clients, you will have plenty of opportunity to build skills in business development and marketing, in particular building relationships and contributing to joint route to market strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out financial modelling as part of the valuation process. You will therefore need to be proficient in Excel with solid financial modelling experience.
  • Take responsibility for small valuation assignments and specific parts of larger projects according to expertise, the size and complexity of the project.
  • Prepare detailed financial analysis of market comparable companies and transactions in the relevant industry sectors.
  • Prepare sections of reports which support our valuation conclusion. Examples include industry and market analysis, comparable company analyses and detailed valuation methodologies.
  • Support senior team members in the development of new business in the sector, including preparation of proposals and pitches, attendance at presentations and identifying opportunities for sell-on of existing work.
  • Coaching junior staff in areas of technical valuations skills and industry knowledge and key value drivers.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • Preferably ACA / CFA or MBA qualified (or other relevant industry qualifications)
  • Proficient in Microsoft office, Excel
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to see the bigger picture
  • Strong analytical skills matched by an ability to think laterally
  • Ability to deliver high-quality written work
  • Strong attention to detail, combined with an ability to see the big picture
