1st Line Service Desk Engineer

An exciting opportunity has opened for an experienced 1st line support analyst to join a dynamic and fast-paced organisation. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing remote support to several customers, they will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical information in a clear and understandable manner to non-technical users.

Role

Job title: Service Desk Engineer

Location: Godalming, Surrey

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, shift-based

work pattern: Early shift (07:00-15:30)

Middle shift (09:00-17:30)

Late shift (10:30-19:00)

Reporting to: Service Desk Team Leader

Responsibilities:

  • Triaging incoming calls via telephone, team mailbox and service desk toolset. Assessing whether reported issue is a problem, service request or an incident
  • Updating, progressing and closing 1st line tickets, meeting strict SLAs
  • Managing personal queue, ensuring all tickets are progressed and updated at regular intervals
  • Identifying potential security incidents or major incidents with a wide scope of impact
  • Producing documentation and knowledge-based articles where required
  • Providing end-user support via remote technologies and telephone support
  • Flexibility to attend some of our many customers sites around the country and provide on-site support

Requirements

Technical Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience supporting Windows operating systems (Windows 7/10)
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience administrating Office 365
  • Experience imaging laptops
  • Experience with hardware fault diagnosis
  • Active Directory Users and Computers administration

Desirable:

  • Experience with Microsoft SCCM
  • Exposure to Windows Server 2008 R2-2016
  • Experience with proxy technologies (Forcepoint/Mimecast)
  • Understanding of basic networking principles (TCP/IP etc)
  • Understanding of ITIL operations module (Incident management, request fulfilment and problem management)
  • Understanding of ISO 27001 principles
  • Understanding of GDPR principles
  • Microsoft MCSA/MSCE certified

You will join our Change Management team and work closely with the wider Group’s BI team, sharing procedures and technology.

You should have a proven capability to produce MI with a SQL Server foundation and a front-end system. Experience with Tableau would be advantageous as it’s the software we use but you may have developed relevant transferable skills through use of other front-ends such as PowerBI or Qlikview.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain scheduled and ad hoc reporting primarily for internal clients
  • Work with stakeholders at all levels of seniority, using appropriate techniques e.g. workshops, questionnaires or 1:1 interviews to establish their business requirements
  • Utilising your technical skills, ensure that solutions are fully automated and scheduled, reducing any future input required by the Data Analyst
  • Adhere to and promote compliance with the company’s data management policies and procedures
  • Support team members with projects where applicable and utilise technical skills to answer business questions
  • Balance project and day to day reporting to ensure that deadlines are achieved

Experience required:

  • Experience working in a similar role and environment
  • Expert proficiency in Excel
  • Have a good understanding of relational database design and development
  • Able to work effectively across multiple projects or change activities simultaneously, adapting to business change and varying priorities across the business.

Qualifications required:
