Software Engineer - Drone Tech & IoT

Location: Retford, Nottinghamshire
Salary: £30,000 - 45,000 + benefits

Twenty years ago, buying a remote-controlled helicopter probably would have set you back about £250 (not including fuel/power), and you’d have to spend hours learning to get it off the ground.

In 2019 you can basically just nip online, order yourself a drone for £100, and have it flying around in less than 5 minutes.

Drones are cool.

I know it.

You know it.

Amazon, Google, even your local estate agent, they all know it too.

But, for all the cool stuff we’ll be using them for over the next 20 years, there’s already a wealth of situations where they can (and have) been used maliciously.

Whether it’s transportation of contraband into highly secure prisons, or "researching" access points in to high-net-worth homes, the potential for misuse of drone tech is massive, and this team are putting a stop to it.

Thus far, this also means they’ve developed one of the only successful solutions that could help your everyday business. When it comes to drone security, this lot are basically The Ghostbusters.

For now, they’re helping high-net-worth clients, prisons, and event companies but they’re building something so much bigger, and the positive impact that their solution could have on the world as drones become a part of our day to day lives is incalculable.

They’re still in the startup stages, but profitable, and they need a dev.

Not just any dev though.

They need someone who loves this stuff. Someone who sees the potential. Someone who wants more.

Current platform is built using PHP and Angular (Python for the hardware/embedded), but that doesn’t matter. If you don’t like PHP, or you don’t think it’s the best thing for the job, you can rewrite the whole thing.

Want to build it using .NET Core? Fine. Think React would be the best solution? Go for it.

You’ll be their go-to for anything platform/dev related and over the next 12 months you’ll transition into a lead developer. Then you’ll build a team around you (probably about 5 developers), and they’ll all be hand-picked by you.

After that? You’ll be the CTO, and the rewards will match that.

This will be your baby, and they’ll trust you to get the job done in the right way. Your opinion will be respected, and your input will be valued beyond measure.

No micromanagement, stupid targets, or ridiculous investor pressure. Just you, your ideas, and your expertise to lead the way.

It's worth noting that they don't care about the seniority of your previous roles, either. If you're someone with 1-2 years experience, that's fine - you'll learn, make mistakes, and grow with the business. This is an industry in its infancy, and that allows you the oh-so-important benefit of 'time' to make those mistakes and make your mark.

So, only one question remains: are you ready to be part of something big?

Send over your CV. Let’s talk.
