This position is initially temporary with a view to becoming permanent for the right applicants. There may also be an opportunity to increase hours to a full-time role in the future.

Working 3 days per week worked over a 5 day period. Our Client is flexible with regards to which days are worked.

Overview of the role

The Service Desk Engineer will provide end user support to desktop, laptop, tablet and mobile device users. This will include fielding user queries (via telephone, email, and face to face) logging tickets and where necessary following escalation processes, user account creations, and keeping documentation current. Incidents and requests will be handled and tracked according to IT and company standards.

The role will also include onsite as well as external training, for systems used within the organisation, and as part of a wider team development plan.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide an excellent first point of contact within IT for all enquiries
  • Record, prioritise, assign and manage all requests and incidents reported to the Service Desk
  • Manage customer expectations and communications via telephone, email and face to face
  • Escalate to other team members or other departments where appropriate
  • Recording and tracking project issues and escalating to the necessary project teams
  • Documenting new processes, amending and proposing new documents
  • Keep pace with technology advances across the organisation and the wider market
  • Adhere to company IT Policies and Procedures at all times

Our Ideal Candidate

Educated to at least BTEC National Diploma level with 12 months previous experience in a Helpdesk or Service Desk support role providing end user support, ideally in a retail or other fast past environment. You will have excellent customer service skills and an ability to communicate technical information to colleagues with a varied level of technical knowledge from all levels within our organisation. In addition, strong organisational skills, the ability to multi-task and have demonstrable knowledge of IT Service Delivery best practices.

This role is working Monday to Friday shifts between 7am-6pm paying £10.35 per hour. This role is a temp to perm role for the right candidate!

Your primary responsibility is to develop and support the company's Line Of Business systems for clients in the Financial Services industry. This means working on a mixture of components; Windows and web applications and services, developed mainly in .NET, Oracle PL/SQL and VB6.

You will work in a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary team of programmers liaising closely with Business Analysts and Testers.

Skills and Experience:

  • 3 - 5 years development experience in .Net (Windows, Web or Services) and or VB6, Oracle database or MS SQL Server.
  • Ideally you will have experience of the finance industry or related businesses such as banking, insurance, and accounting.
  • Able to work effectively in a team as well as independently e.g. in complex problem solving, detailed specifications.
  • Able to produce work of consistently high quality, including handling complex algorithms and other calculations.

Main Activities:

Working on new projects, core components or supporting existing clients, your focus will be on high quality programming, but encompassing the whole Software Delivery Life Cycle, including:

  • Production of detailed technical specifications/documented analysis.
  • Development work, which may vary from developing substantial new modules, to enhancements to existing systems, to bug fixing for support issues and during testing phases.
  • Completion of programmer QA and secondary QA for colleagues.
