Infrastructure Architect - City of London - Insurance

The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for the specification and management delivery of conceptual, logical and physical technology architectures (along with appropriate technology standards and strategies, time-lines, capital and labour estimates) for defined systems or sub-systems within small, medium or large projects.

The Infrastructure Architect needs to be strong in technology, but also needs to be comfortable with other domains with respect to the solution, and be able to direct and manage specialists (e.g. Product Vendors) in all these areas to produce a coherent solution for the specified system or sub-system.

The role is broad, and candidates must be capable of leveraging their core business experience to advise on a broad range of projects including infrastructure architecture, performance engineering, deployment design, security and systems management.

The role requires strategic thinking and planning. The Infrastructure Architect will be responsible for the enterprise Technical Directions Model i.e. the road-map for infrastructure technology adoption for the Business Planning period (typically the next 4-5 years). This is a fixed term role with the potential to make permanent.

Main Responsibilities

  • Captures technical requirements and defines the infrastructure architectures and high-level solution designs and oversees the implementation of these solution designs
  • Assures configuration and implementation of products aligns with the solution designs in support of cross functional business needs
  • Oversees product configuration, implementation and support. To advise on best practice to achieve high levels of business satisfaction
  • Co-ordinates infrastructure architectures and high-level designs, in conjunction with external partners, Operations, other teams, Project Management and business representatives
  • Drives product evaluation and selection of new infrastructure products to meet strategic business initiatives. This may include project activities from proof-of-concepts, production deployment and handover to operations
  • Establishes the overall system architecture documentation and implement standards and guidelines that guide the design and technology solutions in collaboration with the Head of Architecture, Application Architect(s), Enterprise Architect, Business Architect, Solution Architect and Information Security Officer.
  • Attends Project team meetings and feedback on architecture and design progress, product updates and road maps
  • Assists Sourcing Performance Management to ensure Vendors deliver on SLAs and track progress on open requests for information and enhancements
  • Evaluates technologies to determine strengths and weaknesses in architecture, implementation and suitability. Makes recommendations consistent with the vision of the business
  • Delivers technology functionality that meets technical, quality and financial standards

Relevant Experience

  • At least 10 years in IT in various roles including infrastructure, architecture and design roles
  • Strategic focus: aligns and integrates the strategic priorities with the direction and strategic priorities of the broader organisation
