An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Database Administrator. In this role, the Database Administrator will have the opportunity to work in a varied and rapidly expanding technical environment, within a team that is always on the lookout for new methods, tools, technologies and proactive improvements. In return for your efforts the Database Administrator can expect to stay at the cutting edge of technology; All of our systems are hosted in Microsoft’s Azure public cloud using SQL 2008 & 2016 Clusters in a Windows Server 2012 environment. We are also in the process of planning the migration of our production systems to use Azure SQL.

You will receive continual technical training and also support for professional SQL certifications! There are added opportunities to cross train and certify in Microsoft Azure technologies too.

Database Administrator Key Responsibilities:

  • Management and support of large business critical customer facing SQL installations, using your solid knowledge of Microsoft Best Practice.
  • Monitoring and improving system and application performance (identifying problems, performance tuning and assisting with redesign work).
  • Capacity planning, including advising on architecture and hardware requirements.
  • Building and configuring new SQL clusters and databases within the customer facing and development
  • Creating synthesised or anonymised datasets.
  • Designing, testing and implementing new backup and disaster recovery techniques.
  • Maintaining compliance with ISO27001 and ISO22301 to protect the Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability of the databases.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in administering Microsoft SQL server databases (SQL Server 2008R2+).
  • Strong technical skills including most of the following: SSIS, DTS, SSRS, SSAS, Clustering, Log Shipping, Mirroring, Transact SQL, Database Modelling, Data Analysis, Data Security and Performance Tuning.
  • Any experience with Azure SQL databases would be highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Flexible and proactive approach, with the ability to make a real contribution to the team in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Experience of working in an ITIL based service management role would be highly desirable.
