About Us

We are a rapidly-progressing legaltech start-up looking to transform the legal sector by using machine learning to improve the efficiencies of large international law firms in a market of over £30bn.

We are seeking a self-starter to help us on that journey.

The platform reads tens of millions of data points linked to professional services data and transforms this unstructured data into powerful visualisations and insights that dramatically increase the new business generation potential of its customer law firms.

The company has significant traction from a number of target customers.

The company has committed and unconditional funding with at least 18 months of runway.

The CEO is a three-times serial entrepreneur who has successfully exited one business and still operates the remaining two profitably.  He has extensive industry contacts and vast experience in the target vertical having “been” the target market and then been its customer before going on to successfully sell to it, thereby boosting the future trajectory of the firm.

About you/the role

The successful candidate will work in a friendly and international environment based in one of London's top tech hubs close to Silicon Roundabout.

This is an entry-level position ideally suiting a candidate with outstanding academics, studying towards Masters, PhD level or above in a data science or closely-related discipline.  He/she will be looking for an opportunity to develop experience in machine learning in a highly-commercial environment using the latest tools.

He/she will be a self-starter willing to “roll their sleeves up” and who wants to help pioneer new technology in a “hot” vertical where the UK target market alone is over £30 billion.

Accordingly, the candidate will need to:

  • Be highly numerate with the ability to derive insights and visualisations from data
  • Work with large volumes of text data, and be able to apply standard techniques for preprocessing, wrangling, storage.
  • Be able to apply standard NLP techniques for Information Extraction
  • Have good communication skills in English
  • Have the ability to work independently to design and implement robust solutions

We are looking for the following core technical skills:

  • Python 3
  • Jupyter notebook experience
  • Experience of using data libraries including numpy, pandas, nltk
  • MongoDB or experience of NoSQL databases
  • Experience of data visualisation using tools such as matplotlib, seaborn or similar.

The following are desirable but not essential:

  • Scikit-learn
  • Experience of knowledge graphs and ontologies
  • Experience of NLP, in particular named entity recognition

We are a very early stage start up and the candidate will report directly to the CEO with the opportunity to grow into a more senior role with the attendant opportunities and economics.

You will need the right to work in the UK currently, but after an initial period visa sponsorship is available to the right candidate.

Compensation

Initially on a contract basis with a competitive day rate, this role will grow into a full time position with the attendant cash and equity compensation.

Application

As well as your CV, please provide a covering email explaining how your skills and experience match those specified. Please also explain why you would like to work for an early stage start-up in London.

Introduction to telbee

Voice communication is increasingly taking over from text in much of digital life, whether it is voice messaging, voice search, podcasts or the huge range of voice-enabled devices. This is a huge consumer trend but, beyond simple voice transactions, it is difficult and expensive for businesses to engage through voice in the way many people want, particularly Gen Z.

telbee’s mission is to help businesses, brands and other organisations communicate better with their customers through voice, so that customers feel heard and our clients can build better relationships. We want to make it as easy to listen and respond as it is for everyone to talk.

Our SaaS platform adds voice communications to websites, apps and social media, connecting to a team-focused inbox with workflow, integrations and intelligence to make voice communications fast and efficient.

The first stage of telbee’s platform is our launch product, Vox, which offers voice messaging for business. Vox will be made available to early adopters across a wide range of sectors and usage cases from March 2020, with a full launch planned for soon after.

Role description

This is a rare opportunity to drive the growth of a startup from initial product launch and to play a central role in shaping a young business. With our engineering team outsourced, you will be employee #1 and working closely with the CEO and COO to set, execute and refine our go-to-market strategy.

We are looking for an experienced SaaS startup marketer to lead our marketing and content creation activities and to help drive rapid growth.

Your starting goals will be to maximise uptake by new (free) users onto our platform and to drive conversion to paid usage, whether directly by users or as leads for the telbee team to follow up with. Effective creation and distribution of content (product-related and thought leadership) will be key to this.

With a very broad potential customer base for Vox, we expect the initial marketing efforts to also have broad coverage. We will then need to rapidly focus based on analysis and customer engagement on the customer groups, usage cases, content and channels that provide the strongest returns.

You will initially have budget to spend on outsourced resources for content creation and other marketing services. From our seed round later in 2020 we will expect you to build an internal marketing team.

Responsibilities

  • Setting telbee’s marketing strategy and priorities, working as part of the telbee leadership team
  • Defining telbee’s marketing processes and ensuring high quality standards are met
  • Leading the creation and effective distribution of marketing content
  • Managing telbee’s own communications channels (e.g. social, website, email)
  • Managing outsourced marketing service providers
  • Building and strengthening the telbee brand
  • Building relationships with 3rd party communication relationships (e.g. with bloggers, journalists, events)
  • Measuring performance of marketing activities and prioritising on this basis
  • Communicating conclusions from marketing activities with the wider telbee team to inform product development and overall strategy
  • Recruiting internal marketing team following seed round

Requirements

  • Strong digital marketing experience – 5+ years
  • Passion for communication
  • An entrepreneurial approach, comfortable with rapid testing and refinement
  • The ability to both see the high level picture and the details
  • An ear and an eye for quality
  • Willing to both manage and get hands dirty

Optional pluses:

  • Experience working in B2B SaaS startups
  • Experience with communications and customer engagement products / services
  • Experience working on product launches
  • Deep strength in specific digital marketing tools
  • Established relationships and working practices with high quality contractors
