Being declared winners of the Develop: Star Awards 2019 and considered the Best Studio; big things are on the horizon…we are now looking to help continue their growth from junior to director level hires across the country.

In this case, we are now looking for a Lighting Artist to be based in Newcastle.

Within this role you will:

  • Design and implement lighting for our environments on our current project
  • Get involved in lighting of other projects 
  • Help create pitches for future projects by giving input to the tone of the environments

To be successful you will need to have:

  • High levels of knowledge in lighting and colour theory
  • Strong abilities in real time rendering and post FX
  • Experience of creating and directing level lighting and post FX in a real-time engine
  • An understanding of physical shaders and their interaction with lighting and post FX
  • A minimum of 3 years of production experience working on AAA games or film.
  • Experience in Unreal 4 is advantageous.

Within this role you will:

  • Work with the Art Director/Lead to set the art style and visual standard for the team across multiple titles
  • Drive the direction of a project or concept presentation
  • Be responsible for creating and iterating on ideas whilst maintaining the artistic vision of the Project Art Director
  • Maintain quality, consistency whist mentoring more junior concept artists
  • Ensure that briefs are delivered to spec and on time working with production to maintain the concept schedule.

We need you to have:

  • The ability to work in multiple artistic styles
  • Skills in rapid concepting and iteration of ideas across all aspects of the brief
  • High levels of aesthetic ability, judgement and eye for detail
  • Excellent composition, lighting and colour theory skills and appreciation
  • A self-initiating, confident approach to your work
  • A keen understanding of cultural influences beyond games; movies, books, TV, comics etc
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Lead or Senior concept artist
  • A strong working knowledge of Photoshop 
  • Passion and self-motivation
  • Shipped at least 2 AAA title in a senior/lead role
  • Very strong problem-solving skills for technically challenging tasks
  • Excellent verbal, visual and written communication skills

We'd also ideally like you to have:

  • Experience with 3D packages

  • Liaise with Production, Development Director and Art Leads on all art planning and milestone definition processes
  • Communicate and prioritise dependencies
  • Provide guidance to the Art Director on the requirements of art and animation 
  • Present best practices to art teams, critiquing problematic assets and workflows
  • Communicate clearly, in all directions
  • Facilitate collaboration with external and internal teams
  • Organise and manage Art documentation

We need you to have:

  • Experience of managing Art teams through the complete life cycle of project development
  • Ability to organise and supervise creative teams to accomplish their assignments
  • Scheduling, budgeting, and outsourcing experience 
  • Strong knowledge of art content pipelines and asset management
  • Broad understanding of contemporary processes and engine technology
  • Good verbal, visual and written communication skills
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Previous Discipline Lead experience

  • Establish art staff best practices and methods. 

We need you to have:

  • 7+ years’ experience in game development
  • At least 3 shipped titles
  • 3 or more years’ experience in a leading art role
  • Excellent knowledge of current game art production pipelines and practices
  • The ability to gain and maintain an excellent knowledge of all the latest games in direct competition with the products that are being developed at the studio, ensuring that the quality levels of art are maintained
  • A deep understanding of all art software packages used in studio 
  • Excellent knowledge of colour theory, composition and staging techniques
  • Knowledge of possible future software packages that may help during production and the ability to bring them into the current workflow
  • Working knowledge of engine and tool sets required to generate assets

Demonstrated Ability To:

  • Produce finished art of an exceptional quality
  • Provide effective solutions
  • Take initiative and work effectively with no guidance
  • Remain knowledgeable on current software
  • Communicate clearly and effectively (written and oral)
